Few of us have the courage or the temerity to drop everything to realize our dream of a sailing adventure, to go beyond ourselves or simply to live a life other than the ordered, sterilized model of our modern world.

When such an adventurer whose eyes are filled with far way horizons returns home, he has much to tell; he becomes the hero who faced raging elements, solitude, fear, discouragement and even sickness. The ‘prodigal son’, or rather ‘prodigious son’, we welcome him back with open arms, we want to know everything of his adventures, giving us the impression that we have shared them, that we had the courage to live them ourselves.

Hubert Marcoux left at 44 years of age, a time when many men put their whole life into question. He took 18 years to go around the world. He was not looking to set records or to attain fame. He had simply reached a point where it was important to be free and to seek happiness. He left full of confidence and optimism, counting as much on his determination and his handyman skills, as on the goodwill of the people he would meet. Over time, he acquired a unique experience in navigation, composite wooden boat building and ship’s maintenance, and especially in human relations.

Hubert is a magician. He performs his magic as much with his hands as with his words. He captivates us with his tales just as he captivated the kuna Indains in the San Blas islands. No doubt he has more tricks up his sleeve and new horizons to discover.
